Salalah - Thumrait Truck Road

Road No. 31 which connects Salalah to Thumrait has limited traffic flow for trucks due to its engineering characteristics. This results in slower vehicle speeds and longer crossing times. As the region`s economic growth is expected to increase, and with the current traffic density on the road, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology has decided to construct the Salalah-Thumrait Truck Road (STTR) to divert trucks from Road No. 31. Additionally, traffic fees will be imposed on individual vehicles and trucks.

Economic and Social Impacts

-          Diverting heavy vehicles directly to the Salalah Port.

-          Reducing capital expenditure on constructing, operating, and maintaining the road.

-          Reducing time, effort, and maintenance costs of the trucks as the suggested route is less steep than the current route.

-          Investing in long-term partnership projects and benefiting from private sector experience in providing infrastructure services.
